Etrade MMA's interest is high only for the 1st 3 month, after that it drops below 1%. But you need to keep the account open for 6 month to avoid early closing fee ($20 if I remember correctly) and maintain a minimum daily balance of $1000 to avoid monthly fee of $10. So you'll end up losing $12 in interest by keeping $1K in the account which pays .xx interest for 3 month. The upside is that it's easy to open the account if you already have another e-trade account(i.e. checking).

I also recommend consolidating the bank deals with the bank promo topic.

However, I don't know if there's a clearinghouse post for current CC promos. It would be a ton of work to maintain, but might be useful?

The rate shown is based on the cookies on your computer. You must have visited etrade in the past when the rate was only 4.16%. Try deleting the cookies, it should refresh with the current rates.

Apparently, a mod agrees based on the edit in the OP. Unfortunately, since the old official Credit Card Promotion thread is now archived(even though it was being updated in the quick summary), this amalgam thread is now the place to search for credit card promotions. Based on the green this thread - $2025 bonuses for personal credit card accounts & $770 bonuses for business credit card accounts (8/13/06 update) has generated in just a few hours, it's obvious that this is the format that FW's prefer over the multiple topic format presented here, which is itself a partial repost. Even though this thread is a day older and on the front page of the finance forum section, the response to this amalgam format is not nearly as positive. The OP here should be edited to reflect credit card promotions only if this information is to be easily referenced in the future. Using the above linked post by Markber as a guide would be an excellent idea, although it would require much less work if that excellent thread were simply unlocked.

I need to give Cossack a credit for (1) having direct links to the offers (whereas I can not provide them in the sorted-by-amount list) (2) for being the first (within a three-month(?) period) as far as the credit card part of his thread is concerned. The rationale for creating a dedicated credit card bonuses thread despite the existence of the Cossack's thread was my belief that discussion of these bonuses should be separated from bank bonuses and bank best rate deals. There are different issues associated with opening deposit accounts and credit card accounts (e.g. credit history vs. ChexSystems history, etc). A person, who can easily get bank bonuses, may not be able to get credit card bonuses. Hence, the audiences are somewhat different.

Being not a big fan of "do search first" and "this is a re-post" things that make people scared to post, I do not care too much if people will post in the Cossack thread or "my" thread. As long as deals get posted, I believe the community will benefit. Also, detailed discussion about specific deals are not very convenient in official FW threads. I will try to do my best to collect credit card bonuses from different threads including the Cossack's one. Having email notifications about new card deals posted in an official credit card bonuses thread, however, will definitely save my and everybody's time.
