I ordered a new computer from Dell on BF. I configured it without anything that would delay shipment. I was given preliminary ship date of 12-4-08. Today I get an email saying new ship date of 12-18-08. I really hate to wait. Has anyone had any luck squeezing Dell for upgrades, discounts, free stuff? I am ready to cancel and go buy a computer from Sams Club and just be done with it.
Thanks
Ted

call them up to do cancel, they will say they will put in request, it will magically show as shipped! may need to threaten chargeback because delayed order! report back your results

noticed this buying memory few months back.

No offense OP but if you just ordered last Friday on BF their business day of the year and you are already complaining less than a week later then online ordering especially from Dell is not for you. Dell states when you place your order that ship dates are subject to change and that is in normal times. For the holiday season delays in custom built PCs are a given. HP is no different. As far as Dell goes their delay notices are generally meaningless in the first place. You may receive a delay notice and then a ship notice an hour later. At this point unless you ordered a high dollar non-advertised non-discounted Dell PC configuration from the XPS, Alienware, or business dsektop/server lines Dell is not going to offer you any compensation and is not going to put in any request to expidite your order. At best right now all they will do is cancel your cancel order if you ask. In a couple of weeks if your order still has not shipped you can probably get a free upgrade in the shipping method so it gets delivered ASAP . Other than that you are wasting your time. The old days of Dell handing out compensation like candy are long over. Unless you actually have possession of your Dell PC and want to return it for dissatisfaction issues getting compensation from Dell is near impossible.

I have ordered at least 25 things from Dell ( computers, laptops, x box, mp3 players ) and they all shipped when stated. I did not buy something that was such a great deal, I needed a new computer and ordered one. I saved a few bucks by buying on BF, but would gladly ( and not very fat wallet like ) pay a few bucks more to have it today. I have no problem with them taking 2 weeks if they are up front about it, but I feel likes it a bait and wait kind of thing. I will give them a call and see what they say.

I am so utterly ticked-off, I can hardly contain myself. I ordered a Dell laptop for a holiday gift for my little girl...I ordered BEFORE the mad holiday rush, and BEFORE black Friday. It has been delayed 4 times...I have emailed Dell 3 times...each time only getting an automatic response. I have called them 6 times, and was transferred thru the same department customer care center 11 times. Never leaving the same department - just going around in circles. It got to the point I actually had to laugh out loud...so obvious. They could have at least transferred me to different departments.

I have to say, this is by FAR the worst customer service experience I have ever had!! - bottom line. They could give a X#@(. They don’t try to help you replace your product with something else they may be ready to ship - or at least ship earlier. They don’t tell you why your order is delayed. They don't even want to talk to you.

You know; if one looks thru history. Looks at how many companies have gone under because of severe poor customer service - or because of promoting an item, and not being prepared for delivery promises...or even posting 'guaranteed' shipment dates, then not following thru...one would see Dell is going to have some serious issues.

I wish I had the power to single handedly force them to talk to their customers - to force them to have to deal with the issue - to show them, they cannot, nor should not be allowed to 'BS' the world.

Is anyone else having this 2008 issue?? - is there anything we can do?

Yes, cancel your order and purchase from someone else. That is the best way to get their attention.

2008 issue? What rock have you been living under? Dell has been horrific to deal with going on 5 years now. If you had done a little research first you would have been well aware of this.

Here's what we can do: don't buy from Dell. Let them go out of business quietly. The writing is on the wall for quite some time.
