What's the best way to deal with "credit card" rebates? in: Recommendation Needed

I recently bought a power supply off of Newegg with a nice $40 rebate. Turns out that the rebate is in the form of one of those capped credit cards.

Is there an easy way to get your money out of these things if you just want cash? Are gift certificates online probably your best bet to get the full $40 out of these, i.e. not get stuck with $0.xx in change that you can't buy anything with?

Sort of related, how popular are these rebates? I've never come across one before.

What do you mean? Transfer to the paypal account? and then just out to bank?

Seconding for an explanation. I just logged into my paypal account and only see an option to withdraw from a bank account?

Although, I am wondering if I can do pokerstars->paypal->bank. Pretty much every US credit card bans their use for online gambling sites, but maybe these capped cards are different?

I pay a utility bill (cell phone) or eBay fees with it.

I usually just buy a gift card with it from a store that I know I will be buying something from for example the grocery store

If you take your gift cards to the customer service department of your grocery store, you can buy grocery store gift cards exactly equal to the value of your gift cards. It's been my experience that cashiers have an easier time applying multiple grocery store gift cards to an order than applying multiple debit cards.

or Target or Home Depot, etc.

I purchase Wal-Mart GCs of equal value and then use them to buy gas and other items at Wal-Mart and Sams Club. Also ,unlike most prepaid credit card based GCs that require you to pay inside when using them at a gas station, Wal-Mart GCs can be used at Sams Club gas stations right at the pump and show your remaining Wal-Mart GC balance before and after your gas purchase right on the pump display. Another nice feature is that as long as you have your original Wal-Mart receipt showing your Wal-Mart GC purchase Wal-Mart will replace lost or stolen GCs up to $250 at their banking centers in their stores.

I take mine to meijer (Midwest grocery store) and trade them in for gift cards. I know I'll be shopping there, so I am sure to get full usage out of them.
